Chick suppliers, Tom Barron ISA, are stepping up production of the ISA Warren egg layer as demand continues to grow for the UK’s newest strain.
Sales are now heading towards 3.5 million since the layer was launched in the UK and Ireland just over two years ago, with delivery of the three millionth chick due to take place in early May.
"We have been virtually sold out of the ISA Warren since it was introduced," says Mike Haines, commercial director of Tom Barron ISA.
"Free range producers have been impressed by its robust all-round performance, which has led to forward orders through this year. Customers point to its high livability and good feather cover throughout lay, combined with the essential high egg numbers and good shell colour.
"These attributes are also bringing the breed to the attention of more intensive producers, which we see reflected in the continuing year-on-year increase in ISA Warren orders for this sector of the market."
